Here are some tips when you take off for Mexico, and a reminder of the essential things not to forget in your suitcase!

    110 volts and socket with 2 flat pins. Bring an Americas adapter.

  • passport valid at least for the duration of the stay;

  • immigration document to be completed on arrival (FMM or Forma Migratoria Múltiple).

  • Pay attention to the formalities for entering the United States if you are transiting through this country.

  • - Recommended vaccines:

  • universal vaccinations: DTCP, hepatitis B;

  • hepatitis A and typhoid fever (very, very recommended);

  • in case of rural or prolonged stays: rabies.

  • - Best season: between October and April.

  • - Duration of direct flight from Paris: 11h50.

  • - Time difference: in the majority of Mexico, - 7h.

  • Bring light, cotton clothing: T-shirts, shorts, Bermuda shorts, sandals and swimsuits. A good pair of shoes (even low) for hikes and walks. Also bring a hat or cap and sunglasses.
    Also take some warmer clothes for the mountain region: it experiences a cooler climate in the evening in particular. So plan one or two pants, a fleece and a raincoat.
    Remember to bring a special tropical mosquito repellent if you go to the coasts of the country or to the Yucatan region (as well as Palenque

  • * “Propina”: tipping is essential, 10% minimum and more if you are really happy! Sometimes it is included in the bill (servicio), don't forget to check!

  • 1/ Exchange

    The currency of Mexico is the Mexican peso ($Me).
    No need to bring dollars, euros are exchanged very well. There are many exchange offices and banks in the airport (counter and ATM)
    It is not possible to pay in dollars in Mexico, except in the Yucatan where very often prices are displayed in dollars.

Mexican festivities and traditions

To add charm and cheerfulness to your trip, find out in advance about the local festivities to discover, I recommend that you see or do some of them during your visit to the destination, here are:

  • day of the dead or  Dia de Muertos  takes place on November 1 and 2 each year, it is All Saints' Day, celebrated on the 1st, the latter is a Catholic feast where the Church celebrates all the saints, known as unknown. And on the 2nd, Catholics celebrate their dead by going to put flowers on their graves and pray for the salvation of their souls. It is a joyous celebration, in Mexico the Day of the Dead is a real holiday that marks the temporary return to earth of deceased loved ones. This celebration is typical of Mexican culture and the best known in the world. By attending, you will discover its unique atmosphere!

  • The dance of the Valodor (la danza de los voladores) listed as cultural heritage by UNESCO is an attraction organized throughout the country and a ritual ceremony. It features five people at the top of a 30-meter pole from which they tie their legs to ropes before letting themselves go into the void by turning and gradually descending towards the ground. The fifth stays above the mast, dancing and playing the flute and the drum.                              By clicking on the button opposite, watch a demonstration of the traditional dance.

  • Some vaccines are recommended before a trip to Mexico, such as  vaccination against DTCP, hepatitis A and B and typhoid fever,

  • The time difference (in most of Mexico) is 7h in -.  When it is 2 p.m. in Paris, in Mexico it is 7 a.m. in summer and 8 a.m. in winter,

  • The duration of a direct flight from Paris is approximately 11h50,

  • The language spoken is Spanish, but English is widely practiced,

  • Tipping is essential, 10% minimum and even more if you are really satisfied. Sometimes it is directly included in the bill, remember to check it,

  • Posadas pinatas  is a community party. In Mexico, Christmas begins on December 16 and for nine days, in villages and neighborhoods, posadas are organized, neighborhood parties synonymous with celebrations, illustrating the sense of Mexican hospitality. It is therefore an opportunity to celebrate the arrival of Christmas by installing piñatas in the gardens or in front of the houses, the traditional Mexican piñatas are made with seven peaks forming a star and they represent the seven deadly sins.
